The three slide shows which Mr.*. Scherschel will screen at the Gay s Street Theater have been released by National Geographic to commemorate its 100th anniversary.
The first is by staff photographer Jody Cobb, whose highly acclaimed and controversial article on Arab, women appeared recently in the magazine. The presentation includes photos which weren’t included in the ■ magazine piece, with Ms. Cobb ex-, plaining the problems she had in, shooting Arab women and other difficulties she encountered in the assignment.
The second features the underwater photography of David Doubilet, whose work Mr. Scherschel praised for its “awesome beauty. ”
The third is a composite of scenic - shots taken around the world by contract, staff and freelance photographers for National Geographic. “No . matter who is taking the pictures, there’s a requirement on every assignment to do a certain amount of' geographic work to show what the country looks like,” Mr. Scherschel noted.
After the slide shows, Mr. Scherschel will take questions from1 the audience, both on the art of photography and the National Geographic presentations.
Admission to the Monday Night Alternative, which begins at 7:30, is V free. Students who want to expand their knowledge of the world beyond' Rappahannock County are given a special invitation by RAAC and the Rappahannock Library.
