Attendance at Virginia State Parks for 1987 reached the highest figure recorded in the park system’s' 51-year history. The 3,738,328 visitors recorded last year surpasses the previous high of 3,717,945 in 1981. The new attendance mark is a modest one-half percent increase over the 1986 attendance figure, marking the fourth consecutive year that, state park attendance has shown an increase. .
