Garden Club to sponsor trip
to Philadelphia Flower Show
The Rappahannock County Garden Club is sponsoring a trip to the Philadelphia Flower Show on Wednesday, March 9. The cost of the bus fare is $28 and includes the admission ticket to the flower show. The bus will leave the Sperryville Emporium at 7:30 a.m. and will s top at the new commuter parking lot outside of Warrenton around 8 a.m. A check for $28 should be made out to the Rappahannock County Garden Club and send to Mrs. Eino Siira, Rt. 1; Box 285-C, Sperryville, Va. 22740. Weight Rally to be held
The Ways and Means Club of the Macedonia Baptist Church will sponsor a weight rally on Saturday, March 13 at 6 p.m. The Men’s Chorus of Macedonia will be in full concert. The public is cordially invited. The Rev. James A. Price is pastor.
Valentine’s, new works at Middle St.
A new show of selected works by gallery artists is on view at Middle St. Gallery through February. Included in the exhibition are handcolored photographs and collages by Mahan and Marshall, cicada studies in colored pencil by Purnell, cow landscapes in watercolor by Lewis, a large acrylic seascape by Griffin and new ceramics by Drevas. f
Also available in the new Art Shop are one-of-a-kind valentines and other cards by Drevas, Hoyer, Moore and Marshall. Gallery hours are Friday through Sunday, 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. and by appointment. Call 675-3440 for information or an appointment.
Master gardeners, bloodmobile
A Master Gardener Program is being held in Front Royal beginning Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 6:30 p.m. Classes will be held at the Raymond Santmyers Youth Center every Monday and Wednesday evening until April 11. The cost is $25. Interested participants need to contact the Rappahannock Cooperative Extension Service at 675-3619 by Tuesday, Feb. 16.
The Extension Homemakers are again sponsoring the Red Cross Blood Mobile on May 4, at the Washington Fire Department. Mark your calendars and make plans to give. There is no age limit for blood donors.
Historical Society to meet Feb. 21
The winter meeting of the Rappahannock Historical Society will be held at the Rappahannock County courthouse in Washington on Sunday, Feb. 21 at 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be Mrs. H. J. N. Graves of Luray, who will speak on the Germans who settled in the Shenandoah Valley during the Colonial period and the unique “forthouses” they built as a defense against Indian attack. She illustrates her talk with a collection of excellent color slides. There will be opportunity for questions and discussion. Refreshments will be served. All members and interested persons are cordially invited.
Lamaze childbirth series
A seven-week childbirth course will begin on Friday, Feb. 19 at Trinity Episcopal Church, from 7 to 9 p.m. Instruction in the Lamaze method of breathing will be provided, as well as information on labor and delivery and the newborn. Adventure Team to meet
The 4-H Rappahannock Adventure Team will hold its regular monthly business meeting and Valentine’s Party on Thursday, Feb. 18, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Trinity Episcopal Church. Anyone interested is welcome to join.
