Conway in northern New Hampshire. “I took classes from Carolyn Pulsifer, a master metal smith. The League sponsors classes once a year to ensure the quality of the craftsmen; they like to teach the courses at League stores where the wares will be marketed. The course lasted for three months; I took it one year, re-enrolled the next year, and a year later was juried by the state.”
The Washington craftsman’s signature piece is the “wave-link,” a link of metal (usually 14k gold) in the shape of a wave. Since first coming up with the design, he has created various configurations for earrings, bracelets, necklaces and any other type of jewelry ordered by his customers.
Mr. Goodine admits the link was somewhat of an accident. “It developed because of the shape of the hammer. When I struck the small pieces of metal it kept wanting to curve. At first I didn’t want it to, then I just went with the flow. I feel like I’m a conduit through which
