year's Rappahannock Point-to-Point illustrated the afternoon in pictures, ^ capturing the horses, hounds and people at the races. . .
Mr. Hatter received two other awards for his photography. His silhouette of two firefighters at a barn fire captured a second place for spot news photography. Another second place for pictorial photography was awarded for his picture of a farmhouse in the morning mist outside Washington.
The staff also received two awards in the press association's Better Newspaper Contest. Mr. Hatter was awarded a second place for “Excellence of Editorial Pages,” and the newspaper’s staff received a third place for “Excellence of Overall Design” for the makeup and content of the entire newspaper.
The VPA writing and photography competition is judged in six divisions, with weeklies and daily newspapers divided according to circulation. The Rappahannock News competed in the weekly division for newspapers of less than 5,000 circulation.
