Since moving to Rappahannock , County more than 20 years ago, I have learned td treasure the incredible beauty of this special place. I have to pull off to the side of the road every now and then to stare at an especially beautiful sight. At those times, I just cannot believe how lucky I am to call Rappahannock my home.
During the past year, however, I have been pulling off to the side of the road to stare at unbelievable blight! Favorite country roads, such as Route 729 between Flint Hill and Ben Venue, Route 659 to Marshall, and Route 663 of Resettlement Road have become trash-strewn, suburban-sprawl thoroughfares.
In one particularly tragic case, an historic county landmark — a lovely fieldstone residence — now sits check-by-jowl with a garish monster of a house that completely overwhelms its historic neighbor. The pseudo-country design of the clapboard contemporary looks for all the world like an oversized barn, except for the fact that it was built practically on top of the fieldstone residence.
