Verify pavers’ licenses

Several county residents have been taken in by contractors offering to pave their driveways or paint their homes, according to law enforcement officials.

Commonwealth's Attorney Peter Luke advises that anyone getting an offer that sounds too good to believe get the terms in a written contract and call the State Corporation Commission to make sure the business is licensed.

Chapter I group meets

The Chapter I Parent Advisory Council will hold its second meeting of the year at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 16 in the Rappahannock Elementary library.

Liz Smith, a Chapter I teacher, will present a program on reading recovery.

All parents and and the public are invited.

Races enjoy good weather

The Old Dominion Hounds' hunt races were held on Saturday before about 8,000 fans. Veteran horses showed their mettle in the day of steeplechasing.

‘Wizard of 0z’ at Theatre

This Sunday's RAAC-sponsored movie at the Theatre at Washington is "The Wizard of Oz," a chance to see the film classic on the big screen and without commercials. Showtime is at 2 p.m. only.

Note that the movie that had been scheduled for this weekend, "Home Alone," has been moved to April 21, when it will be shown at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
