AlcocK rated the rat Myertrained horse at the back of the 8horse field until the sixth of 13 fences, when he moved up to third. Then, with a quarter of a mile to go, he unleashed him further, zooming to the front and taking the last three fences first.
Hot Rodder was second by seven lengths, and Pacific Mail with Neil Morris third.
Mihmaz, owned by Kinross Farm and trained by Pat Myer, won two sanctioned races last year with Alcock in the irons.
In the novice timber race, Dr. Joe Rogers’ Blue Rocket sailed to the front at the drop of the flag to enjoy a wire-to-wire victory. At one point, though, it looked as though Zohar Ben-Dov might return to the winners’ circle when Peter Walsh got Kinross Farm’s Oakbum up to challenge Blue Rocket.
Down the stretch it was a twohorse race, but Blue Rocket sustained his pace to the wire, taking the race by half a length over Oakbum.
Quick Print and Patrick Cooney took the last race of the day, giving trainer Doug Fout and owner Beverly Steinman a win.
