Under redistricting plans now being approved in the General Assembly Rappahannock will no longer be represented by Front Royal Republican Raymond FL “Andy” Guest in the House of Delegates and Harrisonburg Republican Kevin Miller in the State Senate.
Most local officials reacted to this news with genuine dismay that Rappahannock will lose Del. Guest’s representation. . [
“I hate to lose Andy as a delegate,” Hampton Disr trict Supervisor Mike Massie said. “He’s been wonderful to us. We’re the smallest county is his district, but' he’? always responded to anything we’ve asked.”
Rappahannock will be included in the 31st House District along with the eastern half of Warren County and the southern and central parts of Fauquier County. There is no incumbent living in that area now.
In the Senate redistricting Rappahannock is ii> cluded in the 25th Senatorial District with Madison, Greene, Albemarle and Nelson counties and the city of Charlottesville. This district is represented by Demo*crat Thomas J. Michie, Jr. of Charlottesville.
Sen. Miller’s 26th Senatorial District will be made up entirely of localities in the Shenandoah Valley. ‘ !
Piedmont District representative Charles K. “Pete” Estes echoed these sentiments. “Andy Guest has royally helped us out on a number of occasions,” he said. “I feel Andy Guest has represented Rappahannock’s interests in the General Assembly to the very best of his abilities. We’ve been fortunate to have someone like him.”
Even local Democratic Party chairman Douglas Baumgardner said, “Andy Guest has been an effective delegate for Rappahannock County. I have a lot of respect for him.”
