Spring event at church
Washington Baptist Church will be having their annual spring event at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 27. Plate lunches, barbecue chicken, hot dogs, hamburgers, drinks, baked goods, crafts and plants will be available.
Queen contestants sought
The Sperryville Fire Department will hold its carnival May 29- ■ June 1. Any girls interested in running for carnival queen should contact Margaret Ann Wayland at 987-8260. Crowning of the queen will take place Saturday night.
Artist at Trading Post
Abraham Begay, a Navajo master silversmith will be at The Trading Post from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, April 13 and 14. There will be Indian tacos and fry bread for sale this weekend also. The Trading Post is located on Route 211, west of Washington.
Lions benefit auction
The Rappahannock Lions Club is again planning for their annual benefit auction to be held at the Washington fire hall at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 11. Proceeds from this auction are used to support local needs of the community such as sight and hearing screening, youth athletics, senior citizens, scholarships, drug awareness and other projects. The club is accepting donations of new, renewed or serviceable items that you no longer have need for. Cash contributions are also gratefully accepted. Food and clothing however are not acceptable. Benefit banquet
A banquet sponsored by the Rappahannock County Citizen League will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, April 13 at the Rappahannock Elementary School. Guest speaker will be Mrs. Julia Boddie, retired teacher and former member of the league. Donation is $12. Tickets may be purchased from any member of the league. Crazy Eights to perform
The Washington Volunteer fire department will sponsor a dance beginning at 8 p.m. on Saturday, April 20 at the fire hall. The Crazy Eights will perform. You must be 21 years of age to enter. Cost is $7 per person.
Nursing graduation
Piedmont Technical Education School of Practical Nursing will be holding their 30th Nursing Class graduation at 7:30 on April 13 in the school auditorium. The public is invited.
Mothering group to meet
The monthly Mothers’ Gathering will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 18 at the Rappahannock Park. Bring a potluck lunch to share and drinks. Chairperson Kathy Kreyling has organized an educational resource panel to speak to parents on schooling opportunities. Beginning at 12:30 representatives from the Rappahannock Elementary School, Spring Mountain School, Wakefield and the Homeschooling Association will present and answer questions. Trinity Episcopal Church will host the Mothering Cooperative group in case of rain. Free to members and $2 donation, non-members. Call 937-3110 for information.
