The board voted to authorize Dr. Gangel to seek bids for an aboveground vault and tank for the elementary school’s fuel oil to replace the underground storage tank.
Dr. Gangel said there is at least one firm that is building such tanks and selling them on a five-year “lease-purchase” basis. The underground tank must be replaced soon since it will not be possible to insure it against leaks after this year.
Mr. Chappell reported that after an incident March 26 when a tractortrailer had nearly skidded into a school bus stopped to unload children on U.S. 522 between Huntly and Chester Gap, he had arranged to have the bus pull off the road for this 8top. He said that letters went out to the four parents who have children getting off at that stop informing them of the change on April 3, and the change took effect April 4.
In other action the School Board:
• Appointed Beth Gall to teach physical and Earth science at the high school.
• Accepted the resignation of David Orth as elementary and high school band instructor.
• Approved textbooks for English, social studies and foreign languages.
• Accepted the low bid from A&F Associates to audit the activity funds at both schools.
• Approved a list of teachers and administrators to be reappointed for next year. At the elementary school Molly Bailey, Betty Ebom, Mary Horvath, Nina Norman, Linda Owings, James and Pamela Roszak, and Amy Wolf received tenure. At the high school Vicki Eastham, Joyce Good-Ewing, Susan Henry, Mike Tupper and Renee Leake received tenure.
