One-world
government
To the Editor:
While the attention of the American people remain riveted on the situation in the Persian Gulf, the administration that sent our troops there is leading our country into socialism, helping to keep communist tyrants in power, and plunging the nation into the clutches of a U.N.-directed, socialist, one-world government.
Socialism can be defined as economic control of the people by government, leading to steadily rising taxes, skyrocketing indebtedness, more federal controls and regulations, and a mushrooming bureaucracy. Anyone who fails to realize the daily increase in government power over the individual is fast asleep. If it continues, all of us will soon be slaves of government.
Everyone in America should be concerned about the well-being of our troops in battle, everyone also should realize that a major goal of this use of our military is President Bush’s frequently stated desire to reinvigorate the anti-American, anti-God, and pro-communist United Nations and bring about a “New World Order.” Our troops should never be used for such a purpose.
The cozying up to Gorbachev, Assad and Deng Xiaoping during the war is bothersome. Why has our government overlooked the USSR’s invasion and destruction of Afghanistan? Why do we sweep under the rug the recent Soviet atrocities in Lithuania and Latvia? Why are we ignoring the long history of terrorism committed by Syria’s Assad? And why is nothing being said about more tribunals in China to deal out harsh punishments to the freedomseeking survivors of the Tiananmen Square massacre?
War always means more government; war distracts people from being properly concerned about government’s other activities; and this war might end up bringing about the loss of our national sovereignty to the United Nations that Mr. Bush praises so highly. I urge all Americans to never end their vigilance about all activities of our government.

How wonderful to come home from Rabbinical School for spring break to find that the soul searching and the dialog, so painfully missing in New York, is taking place here in Rappahannock County.
In our elevator at the Jewish Theological Seminary there is a poster with a quote from the Talmud: “He who saves a single life, it is as if he saved the world. ”
