uver une-uura oi tne current seventh grade class at Wakefield School in Huntly participated in the 12th Annual Center for Talented Youth search sponsored by the Johns Hopkins University.
The purpose of the search is to seek seventh grade age students with exceptional mathematical and/or verbal reasoning aptitude and then provide them with a variety of opportunities that challenge the young students to excel. ’
To participate in the search, students must already have scored at the 97th percentile on nationally standardized achievement tests. Students then register to take SAT, which is a test designed for collegebound juniors and seniors in high school.
The SAT Test is divided into math and verbal sections. The maximum possible score on each section is 800 for a combined total of 1600. In 1990, the nation wide average for high school juniors taking the SAT was a combined score of 900, the average for the state of Virginia was $94. The Wakefield seventh grade students who participated had a median score of875.
