Mr. Baumgardner said he was familiar with Sen. Michie’s record. ‘Tom Michie is one of the more effective members of the Senate,” he said.
Sen. Michie serves on the Courts of Justice, Education and Health, Rehabilitation and Social Services and Transportation committees.
“I like the idea of having Tom Michie as our state Senator,” he added. He noted that Sen. Miller showed “skepticism about the exercise by localities of their zoning powers.” He said Sen. Michie “has a track record of listening to local government officials. ”
Sen. Miller was busy in committee and caucus meetings and not available for comment.
Mr. Longyear said he was concerned that Rappahannock might get lost in a Senate seat that stretched through Nelson County.
