There’s no vegetable like them. Potatoes are the hearty part of the menu, solid and satisfying. They’re the anchor food.
The Irish potato is high in solids, cooks up fluffy and light, never watery or waxy. The oval somewhat flattened shape makes the ideal baking potato, famous ‘round the world. For main dishes, side dishes, meal stretchers, casseroles, these are the potatoes that do the job best.
And do you know how good potatoes are for you? And how modest in calories?
If you’ve heard that potatoes are high in calories, it’s just another old wives’ tale. The truth is that there are only 90 calories in a five-ounce Idaho baked potato, and 63 calories in one-half cup potatoes mashed with milk. In other words, it has about the same calories as a large apple or less than a half cup serving of cottage cheese.
