In the verbal section, the median score (of 800 possible) for Wakefield students was 446 compared to the national average for college-bound seniors of 424. In the math section, the Wakefield median was 430 and the national average in 1990 was 477.
Four Wakefield students earned scores which were among the highest in the state. Lorraine Barrett of Sperryville, Molly Chase of Warrenton, Christina Cheney of Manassas, and Welby Lynn of Washington have all been invited to the awards ceremony to be held at Johns Hopkins.
In addition, Jennifer Blount of Middletown, Kirsten Burton ofWarrenton, Suzanne Carrier of Viewtown, Joshua Payne of Jeffersonton, and Scott Racer of Berryville were awarded certificates of distinction^*^ for their outstanding scores.
Other participants in the program who received Certificates of Participation were Peter Culley of Summit Point, W.Va., and Luke Zindel of Amissville.
In all, 34 percent of the seventh grade class had distinguished scores on the test.
