Several pre-trial motions by Kenny Allison’s defense attorney Jonathan Shapiro were denied by U.S. EHstrict Court Judge Claude M. Hilton during a hearing in Alexandria last Friday.

Allison, 36, of Washington, Va., and Marshall, and his sister, Thelma
Knowlton, of Marshall, are in jail in Alexandria awaiting trial on «ocame distribution and conspiracy and firearms charges.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Apperson, the prosecutor, said this week that he expects to call as many as 50 people during the trial, which he said will take about four days.
He said there is no indication that either Allison or Mrs. Knowlton intend to plead guilty in the case, as several co-conspirators already have done.
Apperson has said that it is the policy of U.S. Attorney Henry Hudson that Allison would have to plea to the “primary” charge and at least one other charge. In Allison’s case, that would be the so-called Kingpin Statute: operating a continuing criminal enterprise employing five or more persons.
In Mrs. Knowlton’s case, the primary charge would be conspiracy to distribute five kilograms of more of cocaine.
Motions that were denied last week include a motion that the wiretap application, previously unsealed, lacked probable cause to be issued, said Apperson. Another denied motion would have made the government disclose a “bill of particulars” that would have provided the defense with exact dates for the alleged conspiracy, said the prosecutor.
Apperson said the defense also challenged and tried to suppress the search warrants for Allison’s two homes, which was also denied by Judge Hilton.
