The Ski Club at Wakefield School

The Ski Club at Wakefield School in Huntly recently completed its 11th season at Bryce Resort in Basye, Va.

Over 160 students, parents, friends and faculty members participated in the program, making it the largest ski club in the area. Every member receives a one-hour ski lesson on each of the six ski days.

Rappahannock 4-H’ers have just completed two annual 4-H events - the Share-the-Fun Contest on March 26 and the 4-H Presentation Contest on April 4.

The winners will represent Rappahannock County at the 4-H District Contest on Saturday, April 20 which will be held at the 4-H Center in Front Royal.

Winners in the Presentation Contest were: Janie Wines of the Chester Gap 4-H Club, blue; Kelly Lawler, blue; Djuan Martin of the Amissville 4-H Club, blue; John Mallory of the Amissville 4-H Club, red; and Grace Bailey, red.

Winners in the Share-the-Fun Contest were: Shannon Eastham and Amy Hathaway, blue; Anwar Mallory of the Amissville 4-H Club, blue; and Amber Earley of the Chester Gap 4-H Club, blue.

Seaman Butler

finishes training

Navy Seaman Recruit Mark R. Butler, son of Douglas M. Butler of Sperryville, has completed recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, 111.

During Butler’s eight-week training cycle, he studied general military subjects designed to prepare him for further academic and on-the-job training in one of the Navy’s 85 basic fields.

His studies included seamanship, close order drill, Naval history and first aid. Personnel who complete this course of instruction are eligible for three hours of college credit in Physical Education and Hygiene.

He is a 1990 graduate of Rappahannock County High School.
