county at average

Rappahannock County takes in $1,147 per resident in taxes, funds from the state and federal governments, fees, fines, and interest.
This figure comes from the “Comparative Report of Local Government Revenues and Expenditures” prepared by the state. Like most such statistical reports, the figures are out of date by the time they are released. These figured are for the fiscal year that ended June 30,1990.
Rappahannock’s per capita revenue figure of $1,147 is in the middle of the six county area that includes the surrounding counties of Culpeper, Fauquier, Warren, Page and Madison. Culpeper, at $1,198 per person, and Fauquier, at $1,238, are higher. But Warren at $910, Madison at $934, and Page at $829 are lower.
All of these localities are lower than the state average of $1,401 per person for people living in counties. Figures for cities are reported separately. The statewide figure, however, is heavily influenced by Fairfax County, with $1,918 in tax revenues per person and 819,000 population. But it isn’t the highest in the state. Bath County is highest with $2,327 per person, but with only 4,800 people, it doesn’t have much effect on the state average.
The figures are further broken down in a variety of ways. For Rappahannock $633 of the total, or 55 percent, comes from local sources; $434, or 38 percent, from the state government; and $80, or 7 percent, from the federal government.
For Culpeper the figures are: $661 or 55 percent from local, $471 or 39 percent from the state, and $65 or 5 percent from the federal government. (The figures have been rounded and thus may not total accurately.)
For Fauquier the figures are: $809 or 65 percent from local, $370 or 30 percent from the state, and $59 or 5 percent from the federal government.
For Madison the figures are: $431 or 49 percent local, $437 or 47 percent state, and $67 or 7 percent federal.
For Page the figures are: $290 or 35 percent local, $$480 or 50 percent state, and $59 or 7 percent federal.
For Warren the figures are: $395 or 43 percent local, $461 or 51 percent state, and $59 or 7 percent federal.
