Ressie Mae Kennedy, 90, formerly of Culpeper, died Sunday, Aug. 25 at Shawnee Springs Nursing Home in Winchester.
Mrs. Kennedy was bom May 26, 1901 in Rappahannock County, the daughter of the late Frank and Martha Jenkins.
She was a member of Slate Mills Baptist Church and was married to the late George Dewey Kennedy.
Survivors include five daughters, Ruth Hawkins of Centreville, Ethel Hawkins of Manassas, Mary Smoot and Ann Petty, both of Culpeper and Louise Brooks of Brandy Station; three sons, John Kennedy of Unionville, Robert Kennedy and George Kennedy, both of Culpeper; 49 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 27 at Clore Funeral Home with Rev. John S. Faraar officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Mike Hawkins, Curtis Smoot, Everett Smoot, Ricky Petty, Tom Kennedy and John R. Kennedy Jr.
Moses Burke
Moses Burke, 71, of Accokeek, Md., died Saturday, Aug. 24 at Southern Maryland Hospital.
Mr. Burke was bom July 25, 1920 in Washington, the son of the late Gabe and Florence Burke. He graduated in 1939 from Washington High School, was a veteran of World War II where he served in the Pacific Theater. He was retired from a career in hotel/hospital services management. Mr. Burke was employed for 27 years with Willard Hotel in Washington, D.C. He was retired from Prince Georges County Hospital in Cheverly, Md. after 15 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lema Doris Jones Burke; one son, Ronald Kenneth Burke of Pomfret, Md.; five daughters, Sharon Walter of Upper Marlboro, Md., Brenda Dawson of Lajolla, Calif., Terry Vandover of Fairfax, Ginger Budd of Indian Head, Md. and Robin Barbour of Fort Washington, Md.; 15 grandchildren; five sisters; and four brothers.
Funeral services were held at George Kalas Funeral Home in Oxen
