Board meeting

The Rappahannock County Unit of the American Heart Association will hold its Board Meetting at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Washington. All members are urged to be present.

Services Board to meet

The Rappahannock-Rapidan Community Services Board will hold its regular monthly meeting beginning at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at Graves Mountain Lodge in Syria. Individuals with disabilities who require special assistance to attend and participate in this meeting should contact Paula Benenson at 703-825-3100.

Mass meeting to be held

The Democratic Mass Meeting/Convention for the 26th District of the State Senate will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 29 at the Luray Elementary School in Luray.

Democrats from Harrisonburg, parts of Rockingham County, Page County, Culpeper and Culpeper County, parts of Rappahannock County, Warren ton and parts of Fauquier County, as well as two precincts in Stafford County will be attending. The Convention is expected to nominate Margaret E. Haynes of Harrisonburg as their candidate to run on the Democratic ticket in November.

Ms. Haynes is currently the District Representative for Congressman Jim Olin in the northern part of the Sixth District.

All Democrats in these areas are invited, and urged, to attend this meeting.

Cookout, bake sale

The Sperryville Volunteer Rescue Squad will have a cookout and bake sale beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 31 and Sunday, Sept. 1 at the Sperryville Emporium. Proceeds will go towards purchasing obsolete pediatric equipment. “Everyone is urged to come out and support the squad in their fundraising effort,” said a spokesman.

EMT classes

The Rappahannock-Rapidan EMS Council is sponsoring classes in Emergency Medical Technician to be offered at Culpeper County Rescue Squad building from 7 to 10 p.m. starting Sept. 5. The class will be held on Mondays and Thursdays until the state test date in December. Call the EMS office at 703-825-6849 to file an application for the class or for more information. This class will also be offered at the Flint Hill Fire and Rescue building from 7 to 10 p.m. beginning Sept. 9. The class will be held on Mondays and Thursdays. Call 675-3091 for more information and registration. Another class will be offered at Fauquier High School starting on Sept. 17. Classes will be held on Tuesdays, Thursdays and every other Sunday.
