The Rappahannock County Library Board nailed down plans for its official opening of the new building, Dedication Day, starting at 2 p.m. Sept. 8, at the board’s monthly meeting last week.
The program will consist of three-minute speeches by Dr. William Young, chairman of the library’s Board of Trustees; a representative of the state library; Washington Mayor Dean Morehouse, who donated the land; Hubert Gilkey, chairman of the Rappahannock Board of Supervisors; James Jamieson of Friends of the Library; and a representative of the founders of the county library.
The speeches will take place in front of the new building, just east of Washington on U.S. 211-522. A wine reception will follow the ribbon-cutting.
In other business, the board discussed landscaping and other details of the new site and building.
Highway signs will be purchased and installed on U.S. 211-522 following the vote of the Library Board.
Marc Malik’s landscaping plan will be presented to the public on Dedication Day.
The board also agreed to plant the three beds nearest to the building with blooming chrysanthemums. Low shrubs, vinca and other longterm plants will be bedded in October or November.
Roberta Anderson reported to the board on a number of “glitches” in the new building. She said the folding door needs a lock and some adjustment, the parking lot lights are too bright and need to be adjusted, and plumbing fixtures are being installed in the two kitchens this week.
