Amissville outweighs anything said tonight. I doubt the post Office will accept it, even if we approve it because of the high cost, but we have no basis for disapproval if it is contingent on having the post office.”
Col. Bingham said he understood the Postal Service is considering several other sites, but Mrs. Semones’s location is the closest to the current post office to come before the supervisors so far.
He said the Postal Service is again considering a site outside the county. “If we lose the post office in Amiss ville, I feel it would be disastrous for the community,” he added.
Col. Bingham made the motion to approve because “public convenience dictates approving this rezoning” contingent on highway and Health Department approvals, contingent on the two traitors now located on the property being removed from the property, and contingent on approval of final site plans. The motion passed unanimously.
The supervisors also approved rezoning 2.56 acres owned by Everett Estes from Agriculture to General Commercial and changing from General Commercial to Agricultural zoning on some of the land Mr. Estes owns behind Hillsdale Grocery. The supervisors agreed with Mr. Estes that his property had been incorrectly zoned when the zoning maps were drawn.
