At the evening meeting, developer and real estate agent A1 Henry complained that the assessments were generally too high. He said he had told the assessors about several properties that had sold recently for less than their new assessments. He claimed that the appraisal firm and the Board of Assessors agreed that the assessments were to© high, but said it wouldn’t matter if all were equally high.
He said that high assessments would cause people to have to pay too much inheritance tax and might cause people to borrow on “phantom equity” in home equity loans. He suggested that the supervisors not accept the new assessments and order the appraisal firm or Board of Assessors to rework the assessments based on more recent sales.
