Today, families are scattered and smaller. Therefore, there are fewer family members providing home care. Thus Hospice continues to see an increase in requests for home care for the terminally ill who personally or financially desire to remain at home.
Hospice’s three registered nurses, five certified nursing assistants, social worker, medical director, clergy advisors and over 60 volunteers are committed to meeting and exceeding patient expectations. Nothing short of this is acceptable.
Hospice is a unique health care system in that it focuses on the entire family unit. Hospice also provides bereavement care to the family after the death. “This may include financial counseling, insurance information, or emotional support,” continues Ms. Weaver. “This is a vital component of Hospice care.”
To enroll in Hospice care, the patient, family member, neighbor, patient’s doctor or clergy may call the Hospice office. It is Hospice’s practice to visit the patient and assess needs in one day. Often the certified nursing assistant begins within two days providing respite for the caregiver and personal care for the patient.
