Mr. Heddleston knew with a fulltime teaching position, a family, and other obligations he could not dedicate that much time and set about trying to gain support for his efforts.
Then he was contacted by Mr. Shankle.
“He asked me to participate just once in a while—once or twice a month. This was exactally what I wanted,” Mr. Heddleston said.
From that beginning the program began to branch, including ministers and lay people from the Rappahannock community and guests who wished to participate.
The Sunday afternoon periods vary in form, depending on the leader, though- all have a religious message.
