Jail ministry
gives inmates
message of hope By LISA G. CURRIE Rappahannock Ncwi Staff Writer It’s not like any room of worship the average “ churchgoer has seen. '1 There is no white or brocade. I There is no altar or stained glass. Instead, there are bars on the windows with old newspapers held over the glass and screen to block too much sun. The walls are white and bare except for a sink and mop propped against one and a long bookcase covering another. Instead of pews in straight rows, plastic chairs in various colors have been arranged in a loosely formed circle amid long folding tables, pushed to the side as much as the small square room allows. Instead of an organ, there is a television, staring silently and black into the white room. But, there is singing and spirit and fellowship. And peace. SMJAIL,p.A4
