County Administrator John McCarthy showed the supervisors plans for the next cell at the landfill at Monday’s meeting.

He noted that dirt from this section has been used for fill in the current cell, thus partially doing the excavation for the new cell. While the new cell is in use, dirt from the area to be used after 1994 will be used, thus partially excavating for that section, which is expected to serve the county for the succeeding five years.
Mr. McCarthy explained that the requirement for a double liner reduces the life of each cell in the landfill, since the soil at the landfill cannot be excavated very deep. An additional two feet of fill are used between the two liners.
