ganization and known throughout the county for her quiltmaking. After moving to Ashland area in the late 1970’s, she began entering her quilts in the State Fair of Virginia, where she received blue, red and white ribbons for several years. She was a member of Monument Heights Baptist Church.
The fifth of ten children and the last survivors, Mrs. Brown, widow of Maury Willis Brown Sr. was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Menefee Brown, a veteran interred in Arlington National Cemetery in 1968.
She is survived by three daughters, Phyllis B. Shirey, Elizabeth B. Williams and Jean B. Konek; three sons, Muary Willis Brown Jr., Henry Allen Brown and Charles Robert Brown. Also 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 29 in the Woody Funeral Home by the Rev. Thomas Harrell and Rev. Robert Carlton officiating. Burial was in Westhampton Memorial Park.
