The reassessment continued to play a large role in discussions at Monday’s Board of Supervisors meeting.
E.P. “Pete” Luke, chairman of the Board of Assessors, reported that the board had heard 486 “beefs,” up from 216 following the last reassessment.
Col. Luke said that most people complained that the assessment was too high. “We heard many offers to sell,” he said.
“The problem is that the one thing we have that raises money is our land, and so few people know what’s going on. A lot of people don’t understand about the tax rate,” he added.
