property which was not included in the commercial zone. The newly zoned property wraps around the Hillsdale Grocery in a U shape with two pieces of road frontage on U.S. 211.
Hampton District representative Mike Massie abstained from voting because he owns adjoining property, but he said a constituent had been pleased that the commercial zone would not extend as far up the hill as it currently does. This rezoning passed 4 to 0.
In other action the Board of Supervisors:
• Agreed to consider a measure granting tax relief to eligible elderly and handicapped landowners at next month’s meeting with a public hearing scheduled in February.
• Agreed to hold public hearings in January on an ordinance to restrict vicious and destructive dogs and on the county seal.
• Approved a resolution granting the Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services Board approval to borrow money to construct a building to house administrative offices in Culpeper and appointed Ailine Johnson to succeed Frances Thornton on that board.
• Again tabled consideration of the Sperryville bypass.
• Agreed with a highway department request to renumber Route 682 to 681, to match its number in Madison County.
• Appointed Lee Bird to a further two-year term on the Middle Virginia Community Diversion Incentive Program. .
• Approved a special exception for Charles Strittmatter to construct a tenant house on his 50-acre parcel to house a farm manager.
