• Preliminary results of the Aug 19-30 wool referendum released b> the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, showed that 76 percent of the sheep producers in Virginia favored continued deductions from their wool price support payments to finance wool promotion.
The Virginia referendum results were 496 producers owning 47,843 sheep voted for the agreement between USD A and the American! Sheep Industry Association, and 154 producers owning 13,222 sheep voted against it.
Terms of the proposed agreement authorizes deductions ■ from wool payments for the 1991 marketing year at the rates of 7 cents a pound on shorn wool and uj* to 35 cents per hundred pounds of liveweight of unshorn lambs marketed.
Deductions from price support payments for the 1992 through 1996 marketing years may increase from the rate established for the previous year, up to 1 cent per pound for shorn wool and up to 5 cents per hundredweight for unshorn lambs* each year. 2
These deductions will continue IEnancing the association’s advertise ing, promotional and related market development activities on lamb and wool for the next five marketing years.
