Lions Club Bland Contest

The Rappahannock Lions Club is pleased to announce that a distinguished panel has been assembled to serve as talent judges for the annual Bland Music Contest, 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23 in the Rappahannock High auditorium.

Lorraine Duisit, popular recording and concert artist, and George Sims, band instructor for Fauquier County, will evaluate instrumental contestants, julie Coon, featured vocalist with the rock band Venus Jones, and Kathy Knuepfer, wellknown chorale and church choir soprano, will judge the vocal performers.

Friends and family members are especially invited to provide a large and enthusiastic audience in support of the. student contestants.

Art of Pruning offered

Rappahannock forester and arborist Lyt Wood will present a workshop on "The Art of Pruning," 10a,m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 29 at the Virginia State Arboretum.

Participants will be given an introduction to pruning all kinds of trees, and participants will have the opportunity to prune mature apple trees.
