The annual membership dinner
meeting of the Rappahannock Farmers’ Co-operative, Sperryville, was held last Thursday evening at Panorama. The dinner was followed by a report of the progress and finances of the Co-Op for the past year and a ten-year comparsion was also shown. The Sperryville store is a subsidiary of the parent plant, Culpeper Farmers’ Cooperative, and other retail stores are located in Warrenton and Remington. According to the report made by manager Gordon Thornhill, total sales for 1971 were $703,525.68, an increase over the previous year of $101,721.31. This included feed, seed, fertilizer; farm supplies, lime and delivery. Thornhill gave a breakdown of the various categories, all of which showed increases.
In Rappahannock County, due to changes in recent years in the birth rate and in life expectancy, the median age of the local population is now 30.4 years. It means that for every resident who is younger than that there is one who is older. The current median is somewhat higher than it was in 1960, when the previous census was taken. At that time it was 38.6 years. By way of comparsion, the median age of the American population as a whole is now 27.9. It is 26.8 throughout the State of Virginia.
David William Streagle was presented his commission to Warrant Officer at the Basic School at Quantico Tuesday, February 22, 1972. Streagle joined the U.S. Marines Corps in July 1957.
