Here’s a winning recipe that’s sure to please most steeplechasers: Take one claimed horse fresh from the track. Combine with an experienced steeplechase jockey-tumed-trainer and one enthusiastic owner. School the horse over timber or hurdles, adding great measures of patience and perserverence. When the horse is seasoned adequately, enter a steeplechase race. Add the owner and trainer watching excitedly while jockey and horse run over the course.

The result should be something similar to Kinross Farm’s Solo Sporting, a multiple winner over hurdles in Virginia.

For the past four years, Pat Myer has been training winners for Kinross Farm near Middleburg with this recipe. Horses such as Rolls, War Lord, Hurricane John, Mihmaz and Solo Sporting have crossed the finish line leading the pack and brought victory home to Kinross.
