Science fai r at RCES The annual science fair for students K-12 will be held in the multipurpose room at Rappahannock Elementary School on Feb. 20 and 21. The fair will be open to the public both days, Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 10 to noon on Friday.

Hurricane exercise slated Rappahannock will take part in “Zelda,” a hurricane emergency exercise sponsored by the Federal Emergency Management Agency during the period March 2-April 24, according to Col. D.C. Knuepfer, county Emergency Services coordinator. Other jurisdictions in Virginia, West Virginia, Delaware, Maryland and D.C. will also take part in the exercise. A briefing by Col. Knuepfer will take place at 10 a.m. Jan. 22 in the Rappahannock Courthouse. For more information call 675-3483.
'Barton Fink' at The Theatre “Barton Fink,” starring John Turturro, John Goodman, John Mahoney and Judy Davis, is the Sunday night movie sponsored by the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and the Community (RAAC). “Barton Fink” broke records for prizes at the Cannes Film Festival, winning for best actor, best director and best film. It celebrates the quirky genius of screenwriters Joel and Ethan Coen. Set in the 1940s, it’s a story of a renowned New York playwright who comes to Los Angeles to write his first Hollywood script. His efforts are complicated by writer’s block, an eccentric neighbor, a gruesome murder and two bloody decapitations. Rated R; 116 minutes. Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23 in The Theatre at Washington, Va.
