Center opens
for recycling;
pick-up ends
The establishment of a new Recycling Center has led the Town of Washington to discontinue its monthly recycling pickup within town. The regular monthly trash collection, however, will continue.
The new Recycling Center will be open during daylight hours, seven days a week, starting March 1.
Those without cars or no way to bring their recyclables to the Recycling Center can call Town Council member Ray Gooch at 675-3474 to make arrangements for someone to collect them.
The Recycling Center is located on the grounds of the Washington Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company on Warren Avenue in Washington.
The Recycling Center accepts everything that the Amissville landfill recycling facility will take except newspapers and automobile fluids.
Acceptable recyclables: clear, green and brown glass with or without labels (please rinse out);, aluminum and tin of all kinds, particularly cans (no need to separate aluminum from tin); and milk jugs and plastic soft drink bottles (but not plastic laundry bottles).
A note about plastic: if it has a number 1 or number 2 on the bottom, it’s okay, unless you can’t see light through the bottle. Soft drink bottles don’t need to have the black plastic bottom part removed.
Amissville accepts newspapers as well as used motor oil and used anti-freeze..
