To the Editor:
February is Black History Month and in celebration of the month I encourage parents, teachers, students and all citizens to pause for a moment and reflect upon the countless contributions of Black Americans to not only this country, but to countries across the world.
So often in the past, so-called “history" failed to recognize the itta? ur hificance of Black Americans in sun- ' jects outside slavery. Yes, slavery is history. It’s not going to vanish. It should be studied as such. But let’s also focus in on what occurred before, during, and after that time. Therefore, I challenge you this month to learn more and study more and only then can “history" hold any significance for all of us.
