What do you look for in a horse to claim? “Well first you have to keep in mind how much you want to spend or can,” Myer explained. “1 look for a horse that goes long distances, is a good athlete and comes out of races showing signs that he will relax.”
He said he wants a wellbalanced horse, preferably around 15.3-16.3 hands. “1 look a lot at conformation. They can’t be too long in the pasterns and they need to have nice knees,” he said. “1 do look in their eye and picture the athlete in them.”
With Solo Sporting, Myer said he knew the horse was a good athlete.
“I knew he would do it. His attitude was so cocky. When I first schooled him, 1 jogged him over some small fences and then took him up to look at the national fences. We went back
