Recalling her race days, Beach said, “I don’t really remember the good races that well. I do remember going way off course at Rappahannock. I was half way up the mountain when I noticed the other horses crossing the finish line.”

Sonny Phillips has been part of the racing scene since he helped build the course at Oatlands in Leesburg in 1967. Today the Loudoun County resident serves as a VSA steward at both the point-topoint meets and the NSHA races.

“There is nothing like seeing a great horse and rider run over the course — you know the horse is giving his all,” Phillips commented.
