This year, the Rappahannock
County Garden Club will again offer the Francis J. and Margaret W. Leonard Memorial Scholarship grants to graduates of Rappahannock County High School who want to continue their education. Two grants, in the amount of $600 each, will be given to two students who plan to attend a technical or vocational school. A third grant of $1,000 for the first year and $500 for the second year will be awarded a student going on to four years of college.
Carol Elaine Atkins, a Longwood college junior fr°m Flint Hill, has been tapped into Geist, the College’s honorary leadership fraternity. Founded at the college in 1966, Geist signifies spirit, intelligence, and imagination, and endeavors to encourage campus leadership and high standards of service and scholarship among students. Carol, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac N. Atkins Jr., is majoring in elementary education.
After a winter with plenty of snow, sleet, and rain, one tends to forget about the upcoming fire danger during March, April and May.
