Mayor Willis said that he received a letter from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) noting the town’s application had been approved for participation in the National Flood Insurance Program. He said, “Federally subsidized flood insurance is now available to local property owners and can be purchased from any property insurance agent or broker licensed to do business in the area in which the property to be in sured is located.”
Mayor Willis also said, “Under the Flood Disaster Protection Act of 1973, flood insurance must be obtained by those seeking any form of federal financial assistance for construction or ac<|ui sition of buildings in the FEMA identified special flood hazard areas in the community."
