Over 750 Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts here in Shenandoah Area Council from Rappahannock, Shenandoah, Page, Warren, Clarke and Federick Counties in Virginia turned into bagmen Saturday as they helped distribute 35,000 bags for residents of the nine-County Shenandoah Area Council. Those receiving the bags are asked to fill them with canned goods for hungry people in the Shenandoah Area Council.
It was the first step of a national Good Turn designed to fill emergency food banks across the country. Youth from the Shenandoah Area Council will spend 3,000 hours distributing the bags.
Scouts will pick up the bags filled with donated canned goods this Saturday, Nov. 19. They’ll be sorted, marked as donated, and sent to the Lord Fairfax Food Bank for distribution to the hungry. Scout officials said they hope the appeal locally will provide up to a four month supply of food.
