lrouoie spots worldwide are the result of joblessness and lack of industry. A new leader will not resolve the problem we see in Haiti today—jobs and industry are the solution. On the other end of the equation, look at Japan, its booming economy is bursting at the seams.
Boris Yeltsin came begging on his knees for corporations and industries to come to Russia. Had Disney gone to Yeltsin with their $650 million package, Disney’s America would be showcased in Moscow.
The dwindling industrial base has diminished the need for high tech, with IBM layoffs now’ totaling 64,000, Xerox cutbacks at 10,000 locally; and the red flags are flying. The solution is jobs, jobs, and more jobs.
To gloss over the loss of Disney is to dwell in a never, never world. Never will such a golden win-win venture fall in the lap of any county in the Commonwealth of Virginia, because such opportunities seldom knock twice.
Those responsible for this loss must be viewed with a jaundiced eye for undermining the economy of the Commonwealth, and they should be held accountable.
In the meantime, crime is rising, drugs are a major industry, prisons are full, taxes are going through the roof, and job markets are dwindling.
Is all this scary? I think so. Perhaps if more people get scared enough, they will wake up and at least smell the coffee.
