President Bob Darby spoke for all members of the Rappahannock Lions Club when he expressed appreciation for the outstanding support we have received from friends in the community this year. He was addressing a large group of nearly 300 who attended the Draw Down Raffle Party at the Lakewide Club near Culpeper on Nov. 5.
For the second year this new fupd raising event proved to be a great success, both financially and socially. The food was excellent, the dance music was varied and popular and the 150-number draw down raffle was exciting, especially for tht last three winners who were left to split the $5,000 grand prize. A total of $925 in cash was paid out to lucky winners as door prizes and drawings of every tenth number through the game. Party Chairman Guy E. Foster III (“Butch” to us) deserves special recognition for the fine job he managed, well supported by his parents, Carol and Guy and his wife Karen. When all expenses have been paid a net profit of about $4,000 will be added to our program budget including profits from the annual Auction, the July 4th Lion Cafe sales and the production and marketing of what Chairman Carson Johnson and the “old-timers” have judged to ‘be some of the “best Apple Butter we’ve ever made."
The members of the Lions Club have worked hard to earn the funds to maintain this year’s program budget. It has been a good year. The Directors and members of the Rappahannock Lions Club greatly appreciate all the loyal and generous support that will permit us to continue providing all of our special services to our community.
