About her newest monologue, “Elderberries,” she says, “I am struggling with it but it is really exciting to struggle. I love it.”
About 40 years ago, Mrs. Abell was a member of an amateur theatre group. She said, “I was stiff and scared and terrible. There is a lot to be said for growing old. I feel comfortable on the stage now.”
Sharon Wyrrick is fascinated with toads and frogs as they relate to environmental factors. “Environmental conditions are changing. They (frogs and toads) are very sensitive to environmental changes,” she said.
Ms. Wyrrick will be performing “Bufo amerieanus” for the first time, a piece she wrote and designed. It will incorporate dance, theatre and visuals to make a social statement about Bufo amerieanus. She admitted that when she first heard the name “bufo amerieanus”, she thought it sounded like an American buffoon, but that is not so.
Ms. Wyrrick said that frogs and toads are very sensitive to ultraviolet radiation and that marshy areas are disappearing and therefore cutting down on their population. Of her piece, she says, “The overall message is serious, but comes from different and unusual angles and has a humorous aspect too.” She added,
