Both county party chairmen are satisfied with how their candidates did in Rappahannock last week.
“We expected to win the county,” Republican Party Chairman Ron Frazier said. “We took the three mostly Republican precincts and came close in Sperryville and Washington.”
However, he added, “I was a bit frustrated that so many good friends and neighbors joined in the Robb campaign of distortions and lies. Earlier we fully anticipated North would beat Robb. In the last days there were too many monkey wrenches in the works-the unholy alliance between Wilder and Robb, a somewhat split Republican Party with Coleman, the continued Iran Contra drag. There are too many things to put a finger on one thing.”
He said he did not believe the nomination of Oliver North cost the Republicans the senate seat. He noted that North carried some congressional districts lost by Republican candidates who were challenging incumbent Democrats.
