Rappahannock on a whim one day, looked at property on a Sunday and bought it the following Tuesday. They didn’t even bother looking at other properties in the county because they could not imagine one more beautiful than the one they chose. She said it has a spectacular view of Old Rag Mountain.
The Theatre has really grown in popularity since she opened it about four years ago. Prior to that, the theatre was used mostly for RAAC movies, productions, community plays and talent shows. Most programs run just one night, usually Saturday, and are usually musical in nature. The theatre has excellent acoustics. Mrs. Weinberg said that some of the musicians come out before jthe performance to check the acoustics and are always satisfied.
One of the most popular series has been The Smithsonian at Little Washington series, which is a branch of the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. Four concerts are planned for the 1994-95 season, and the first one was held on Oct. 29 with Lambert Orkis (fortepiano) and Kenneth Slowik (cello).
Other concerts in the series will be sopranos Judith Nelson and Amanda Balastrieri with James Weaver playing the organ and harpsichord on Dec. 3; The Smithsonian Chamber Players on Feb. 4; and The Smithson String Quartet on March 18. A feature of these concerts is a pre-concert talk given by one of the members of the the group performing.
