The idea of a Sperryville bypass was widely attacked at the Planning Commission’s public forum last Wednesday.
J.W. “Bill” Fletcher III took the lead in opposing it, claiming the only • purpose of such a road would be to make it easier for truck traffic to travel through the county.
“What is the benefit of a bypass to the people of Rappahannock County?” he asked. “I cannot think of one. The only problem in Sperryville is that a tractor trailor going around the Pete Estes’s house climbs the wall. The only reason VDOT wants this is for another corridor for truck traffic.”
