year’s budget. Regular education funds from the state will be reduced by $272,100. That is partially offset by an increase of $ 19,100 from the sales tax and $54,300 more for technology. The county is eligible for $105,600 from the state in grant funds for technology in the budget submitted by Gov. George Allen but must submit a proposal acceptable to the state to qualify for the funds Dr. Gangel said.
With these additions the reduction in state aid for education comes to nearly $190,000. Dr. Gangel also showed the board a memorandum from state superintendent William C. Bosher Jr. showing Rappahannock will be cut $172,555, but that was based on an average daily membership of 1,091. Dr. Gangel is basing his budget on an ADM of 1,030, a figure he considers more realistic.
